A hot Calgary weekend: Lougheed House, markets, and Riley Park
Lougheed House made a beautiful first stop for a sunny Saturday adventure.
This weekend felt like full summer in Calgary: bright skies, blooming gardens, busy markets, a scorching Saturday around 32°C, and a gorgeous Sunday that was more tolerable at about 28°C.
On Saturday, we visited Lougheed House for the BEAULIEU Flower & Artisan Market, one of the outings we had shared in Weekend Explorer. The historic house looked beautiful in the sunshine, and the gardens were full of colour, even with the temperature climbing to about 32°C.
We also got the chance to walk through the museum for free and learn a little local history while we were there. It made the outing feel fuller than a simple market stop: flowers outside, history inside, and a little more reason to slow down and look around.
A lunch stop and a sweet find
After Lougheed House, we headed to Crossroads Market for lunch. While we were there, we found CandyHere and got to try some handmade candy. It was a small stop, but exactly the kind of market surprise that makes a family errand feel like part of the weekend.
Sunday called for a slower pace
By Sunday, the weather was still gorgeous but more tolerable, around 28°C, so we started with an easier wander at the Bearspaw Farmers Market. There were fresh vegetables, local vendors, and we picked up raw honey from Buzzy Bee.
It was delicious, and a nice market find to bring home. Parent note: honey is only recommended for little ones over 12 months old.
The water break saved the day
To cool off, we drove to Riley Park. The playground is a great spot, but the surprise favourite was the wading pool. Our little one loved the water so much that what we thought would be a quick visit turned into more than an hour.
There was shade, space to slow down, and enough water play to reset the whole day. It was one of those unplanned stops that ends up becoming the best part of the weekend.

It was a hot, happy Calgary weekend full of flowers, food, local finds, and one very successful water break.
