Free support for young parents in Calgary

If you're under 23 and parenting, you don't have to figure it out alone. Free coaching, group support, and home visits that cover both your growth and your child's. Delivered by Families Matter.

What is the Successful Young Parents program?

Being a young parent comes with a specific set of challenges — you're still figuring out who you are while also being responsible for someone else's entire development. The Successful Young Parents program gets that.

It's run by Families Matter, one of Calgary's largest family support agencies. You get paired with a support worker who actually listens and helps you navigate both the parenting parts and the life parts — finishing school, managing stress, finding community, and building confidence.

The program isn't just about your child's development (though that's a big part). It's also about yours. Because the research is clear: when young parents get support for their own growth, their kids do better too.

Common Questions

Young parents FAQ

What age counts as a "young parent"?

The program is for parents aged 12-22 (under 23). If you're 23 or older, you can still access other FRN programs like parenting classes, home visitation, and counselling.

Is this only for moms?

No. All young parents are welcome — moms, dads, and co-parents. The program is designed for anyone under 23 who is raising a child.

Can I join while I'm pregnant?

Yes. Getting connected during pregnancy is ideal — you can start building support before your baby arrives. Call Families Matter to get started.

Do I have to be a first-time parent?

No. The program supports young parents regardless of how many children you have. Whether it's your first baby or your third, you're eligible if you're under 23.

Will they judge my parenting?

No. Families Matter's support workers are there to support you, not evaluate you. This is not child welfare or CAS. It's a voluntary program designed to help you feel more confident and connected.
